Abstarct: The Chah Rostam prospect area is located in the Lut Block, northwest of Nehbandan in the South Khorasan province. The Eocene- Oligocene lava flows and pyroclastic rock units with porphyry andesite and andesite- basalt in composition cover the major part of this area. Porphyry granodiorite, monzodiorite and quartz diorite as intrusive and semi-intrusive bodies and dacite dikes with upper Eocene- Oligocene age are cutting the lava flows and pyroclastic rocks. Statistical analysis of geochemical data in 36 stream sediment samples indicates the Cu, Zn, Pb, Ag, As, Cd and Mo anomalies in the study area. By integration of univariate and multivariate (factory analysis) stream sediment geochemical maps, two target areas have been selected for systematic lithogeochemical exploration (location of 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 26, 28, 30, 31 and 32 stream sediment samples). Statistical analysis of 305 lithogeochemical samples shows that Cu, Au, Zn, Pb, Mo, As, Sb, and Mn anomalies in the location of 78, 79, 80, 81, 98, 99, 125, 136, 275, 276, 162, 182 and 186 rock samples. There are argillic, chlorite, silicic, carbonate, and iron oxides alteration zones in the Chah Rostam area. These alterations are resulted by the effect of intrusive-related hydrothermal fluids on the volcanic and pyroclastic rocks. Field observations do not show significant copper and the other elements mineralization in the outcrops. Nevertheless, the study of the drilling cores revealed the presence of native copper and rarely chalcopyrite in the calcite-silica- iron oxide veins. Copper ore minerals (native copper and chalcopyrite) are accompanied by calcite, quartz, pyrite, magnetite, specularite, hematite and goethite in the vein systems and cavities of rocks. The host rocks of mineralization systems are porphyry andesite to andesite basalt tuff and lava flows. baxsed on the geological studies, stream sediment and lithogeochemical explorations, and core logging two potential targets areas have been suggested for the future explorations in the Chah Rostam district. The suggestions of current research are recommended for Target 1 in the first step. If exploration is successful in Target 1, it will be justified to continue prospecting in Target 2. baxsed on geological and exploration geochemistry findings, the Chah Rostam district has potential for epithermal copper (gold) mineralization, and the final decision about its economic potential needs to carry out the suggestions of this research.
